Mykonos - My Travel Guide

Getting There:

This was the second part of our trip, so we took a flight from Naples to Athens. From there, we took a 15 minute cab ride to the ferry port and boarded a 2.5 hour ferry that took us to Mykonos. The process of getting on the ferry was a daunting one…hundreds of tourists all crowd outside in the heat and make a dash for the boat’s entrance all at once. After getting seating in the a/c, though, the rest of the trip is smooth sailing. Our hotel arranged a cab to then take us from the Mykonos port to our hotel, which was a quick drive.

Where We Stayed:

We splurged on a boutique hotel—Cavo Tagoo—and would absolutely recommend it. We had a premium room, which came decked with its own private infinity pool, a lounge chair, and breathtaking views. Upon arriving, you’re greeted by your personal concierge who will help you make dinner reservations and another other bookings you’d like.

A huge perk to this hotel was how close it was to town—about a 5 minute drive. The hotel offers a free shuttle that runs 24 hours into town, which we took advantage of each day.

There is also the most incredible breakfast spread that comes included each morning. Choose from every type of greek yogurt, pastry, egg, fruit, juice, meats, you name it.

The only downside of this hotel, which I’ll be completely transparent of, is that it is not cheap. The poolside drinks were an outrageous 30-40 euros PER DRINK…so we opted to have ours in town for a fraction of that!

Things To Do:

  • Beach Clubs: Reserve a cabana at Nammos or Scorpios for the day and get drinks and lunch delivered to you. They’re not cheap, but if you’re spending the day there, it’s a fun way to do it in style! They also turn into huge beach parties at night (Sundays are their most popular day). We also heard Principote was a MUST when it comes to bohemian-style beach clubs and a perfect spot to lay under a cabana all day, but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to experience it.

  • Explore Mykonos Town: We were told that Mykonos was the place “to party,” which is certainly true, but it’s so much more than just a party! Adam and I were shocked at how amazing the town was. We spent hours each day exploring the never-ending rows of shops and restaurants.

  • Visit the windmills: See what Hannah and Peter were talking about :)

Where To Eat:

Drinks:

  • Scorpios: We arrived for an early dinner (9pm…basically lunch time in Mykonos) and had the best food and drinks! They’re super expensive but absolutely worth it!! Around 10pm, the DJ started and we watched the restaurant transform into a night club.

  • Skandinavian Bar: In the town’s center, this bar is a MUST for those who are looking to party. It gets super crowded after 11 but is filled with tourists looking for a good time. We spent hours dancing here and then walked next door for a late night (3am) gyro!

  • Tropicana: Another must for a late night party!

  • Remezzo: In the town’s center with delicious cocktails and music that gets people up and dancing

Lunch:

  • Nice N Easy: So nice, we went here twice! It was honestly the best food we had in Greece. We ate our body weight in tzatziki dip. Their prices are AMAZINGLY FAIR, so we’d get dips, greek salads, pastas, seafood, you name it and try some of each! The waiters are also super friendly—one gave us free shots of a famous Mykonos liquor to try

Dinner:

  • M-Eating: A beautiful outdoor seating area on the terrace overlooking cobblestone paths. Make a reservation for this amazing spot..all of the food was delicious!

  • Mamalouka: Decked with gorgeous flowers and one of the most stunning spots for pictures. We tried the fried feta with honey and it was SO GOOD

  • Scorpios: We came for dinner and left without any money, but it was well worth it! Everything from the lamb burgers to the grilled prawn linguine to the fresh hummus was INCREDIBLE

  • Interni: A fancier spot in the heart of town. The menu consists of Mediterranean cuisine and the later you stay, you’ll see it transform into a cocktail bar with dancing.

  • Kalita: The menu has some of the freshest fish you’ll find, along with creative craft cocktails.

  • Koursaros: All white interior with delicious sushi options

  • Kiki’s Tavern: An unpretentious, basic spot with no sign or electricity! This tavern boasts the simplicity of a charcoal grill and the authentic flavors of local catches.
