Bachelorette Games That Don't Suck

As we’re all stuck inside, working from home and trying not to kill our S.O who sits 2 feet away, tapping their pen incessantly while humming a tone deaf rendition of “Who Let The Dogs Out”, one thing is for sure: that bachelorette party can’t come soon enough. It’s trips like these that we’re clinging onto; a weekend filled with dancing, suntans, booze, penis straws, and HAVING A GROUP OF 10+ GIRLS IN ONE ROOM! Just weeks ago, we were cringing at the thought of sharing a hotel bathroom with 5 girls, and now we would do just about anything to share a space with more than just our husband’s burps and crude jokes. Well, soon enough ladies, soon enough.

In preparation for this much-anticipated trip, here are some ideas to ensure everyone has fun — because let’s face it, whether you’re a working mom juggling conference calls while your toddlers draw on the couch, a tightly wound do-gooder whose idea of a good time consists of Disney movies on repeat (same, same), or the group’s wild child who lives for these outings, WE’RE ALL IN NEED OF A PARTY RIGHT ABOUT NOW. Here are some of my favorite games:

Guess Who: Bride or Groom

We’ll start with a family-friendly tone here, because maybe you’re all still getting to know each other and haven’t started ripping shots just yet. If you’re sitting in a room with 10 girls you’ve never met before, cutting a cucumber into a penis might not be the best ice breaker. A G-rated crowd favorite is always the “Guess Who” game, where each girl can show off just how well she knows the couple. These templates can be downloaded and customized off Etsy.

Similar to “Guess Who” is the “Would She Rather” game, which gives everyone yet another chance to prove that THEY know the bride best, because of course the beach is her favorite…after all, it’s where she and the groom slept together for the first time (Cue the groom’s sister realizing maybe she should have stayed home). More templates for this game can be found on Etsy and are easy to customize with your own questions.

And then we have trivia, where the claws come out as each girl competes for the title of true BFF. I mean, who DOESN’T want bragging rights that they knew the bride’s favorite type of cheese? Trivia can be played with a downloaded template like the ones above, or can be in the form of jeopardy, with the harder questions being worth more points.

If your bride was a bit of a date-a-holic before settling down with her fiance, you can also make this game into a “Battle of the Exes".” In this version, the host reads off hints related to each of her ex boyfriends, and the audience has to guess which ex it pertains to.

Ok, so by this point we’re probably upping the tequila pours and getting comfortable with each other. Which is a great time to break out Bachelorette-Inspired Pictionary. Split into teams, and see who is best at drawing inappropriate images. Any time a team doesn’t guess correctly before the timer runs out, they have to take 5 sips of their drink.

And now for my favorite: The Newlywed Game. See how well the groom knows his bride by emailing him a list of questions before the weekend and seeing how closely his responses match her own. These questions can be as innocent or as X-rated as you want. Some of my favorites are:

-Who is her celebrity crush? - Who is your celebrity crush? - What is her biggest pet peeve? - What is your favorite memory from your relationship? - What would her last meal be? - If she could destroy one piece of clothing from your closet, what would it be? - What do you find most attractive about her? - If you were roleplaying, what would she want you to be? -If you could change one thing about the wedding, what would it be? -What are you most looking forward to about being married?

An adorable idea here is to record a video of the groom answering these questions, if possible! Play the video clips throughout the game and get some giggles and “awwww”s out of the audience.

Alright, it’s now time to leave the hotel pregame and show off your LBD to the public. While bar hopping is certainly entertainment enough, a scavenger hunt never hurts. Because sometimes, we need a little push to break out our alter ego and let loose. Having a list of dares gives the Bride an excuse to dance on the bar, and for your shy friend to smooch a stranger…after all, it’s on the scavenger hunt list. She had to. Tip: add “have a stranger carry you into the bar”….your feet will be thanking you at about 1am when you’re needing serious reprieve from those new pumps you bought on sale.

And there you have it! Some crowd faves for the bachelorette. Make sure you know the vibe that the bride is going for. If it’s a strippers and pole dancing kinda night, you may want to stick with X-rated trivia questions. If it’s a wine and matching onesies kinda night, maybe refrain from cutting up any cucumbers.
